Miller - Eye for an Eye

  • Forgiveness/Forgetfulness - Sagas are full of these instances (3/68)
  • Worry of how hard it is to come up with equivalences in primitive times (4/20)
  • Old Norse - "Short is the life of the immoderate." An avenger who succeeded his warrant was taken out (6/24)
  • Iceland's Sagas - human bodies as trade (10/32-33)
  • The Sagas show people in the heat of a battle, keeping count of damages inflicted (22/119)
  • Sagas - where one had a steep bill to pay - compensation not paid in conventional money (23/120)
  • The Icelanders had no schedule of body parts, but were masterful at balancing injuries and wounds (the idea of eye for an eye seems very polite) (23/121)
